Christian Horner Under Scrutiny by Investigation
The Red Bull Racing director has been accused of inappropriate behavior, triggering an independent investigation by the parent company, Red Bull.
According to sources, Christian Horner has been accused of inappropriate behavior by a Red Bull Racing staff member.
Apparently, Horner's managerial style might have caused friction among the staff and a recent interaction could have triggered the accusation. Red Bull parent company launched an independent investigation and stated the following:
“After being made aware of certain recent allegations, the company launched an independent investigation...”
“This process, which is already underway, is being carried out by an external specialist barrister. The company takes these matters extremely seriously and the investigation will be completed as soon as practically possible. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
Horner, on the other hand, spoke to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and stated that he "completely denies" the claim. Wrongdoing is also out of the question.
What could be the consequences?
A barrage of theories and speculations have flooded the internet regarding this issue.
Sources speculate that there is an ongoing power struggle at Red Bull since the founder, Dietrich Mateschitz passed away in 2022. He had always supported Horner through the years.
It is rumored that he might have lost support from the higher ups at Red Bull. Some say that Horner has been advised to give up his post and resign amicably. To further fuel this theory, Adrian Newey has a binding clause on his contract that can allow him to leave, should Horner do the same.
Again, this is all speculation gathered up from the internet, take it with a generous pinch of salt.
What is certain
Red Bull Racing is at a critical stage on the off-season, closing in on the opening test sessions in Bahrain, just a few weeks before the 2024 season begins. The energy drink team is favorite to repeat both the drivers and constructors championship.
The investigation certainly is a pebble in the shoe for the team, but things will keep as they are, for the time being. It makes sense that Horner keeps his position for now, until the investigation is over.
With Horner, Red Bull has amassed seven drivers' and six constructors' championships. He became the youngest team principal in Formula 1 on 2005.
What are your thoughts on Horner's investigation? Are the allegations responding to certain interests? Will it affect Red Bull as a team during the 2024 season?
