Xbox Takes First Step Towards Console-less Gaming
Xbox showcased an ad that shows its cloud gaming capabilities on some Amazon Fire TV sticks.
It is no secret that Microsoft's plan with Xbox is to turn it into an ecosystem rather than a physical console platform. They have been one of the companies pushing hard for cloud gaming. Their latest ad with the slogan 'No console? Don't be scared' is a testament to their console-less vision. This joins their selected line of Samsung TVs announced a couple of years ago, which are capable of cloud gaming as well.
This initial step will be available on select Amazon Fire TV sticks. Keep in mind that this comes with all the nuisances of cloud gaming, like input lag, washed up colors, and resolution limitations. However, we'd like to think this approach is not for your typical 'gamer'.
Microsoft has been pushing Xbox Game Pass quite substantially over recent years; it is one of the best offers out there for anyone wanting to have a solid library from the get-go. There are a lot of couch games that would be ideal for casuals and even kids. Cloud gaming makes perfect sense to parents who do not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a video game console.
