5 Great Indie Games on Xbox Game Pass.
Indie games have become quite popular in recent years; the main reason is because they offer us something unique, compared to yearly, triple A experiences like Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, and other games.
Xbox launched its ID@Xbox program with Game Pass in mind; to put the spotlight in a plethora of indie games that we usually let pass due to its price tag barrier. Having a rich list of indie games instantly available to download sorts that barrier and motivates us to check them out.
The games are usually not heavy in size, and don’t take too long to beat. They have a unique aesthetic that can be charming, and peculiar gameplay mechanics that make them stand out.
Here is a list of 5 indie games instantly available on Xbox Game Pass (PC as well):
No Man’s Sky
The space exploration game developed by Hello Games had a rough start. People’s expectations were over-hyped, so the game felt empty when it came out. The procedurally generated worlds and creatures was certainly underwhelming.
As time went by, the team diligently corrected all of the problems the game had at launch, and added much needed mechanics that enriched the experience. Right now, No Man’s Sky is definitely worth playing if you have not tried it before. The developers have added a lot of content to the game since its release.
Perhaps the $59.99 price tag deterred you from playing the game. With Xbox Game Pass you can give it a try, but beware, you might end up going down a rabbit hole and spend endless hours exploring the universe.
Astroneer
With a jolly and relaxing vibe, this game features exploration in a way you have not seen before. You will take control of an Astroneer, and set off to explore distant planets. The game has terraforming mechanics and resource management that certainly provides an element of depth.
You will store all recollected resources, and craft equipment that will aid you with your mission. It is one of the most soothing survival experiences in Game Pass. If you like space exploration and resource management, then give this game a try.
Stardew Valley
If you have not played this game by now, then this is your perfect chance to dive into one of the most incredible farming games in recent years. Its unique pixel-art esthetic will instantly charm you.
The game features everything we ever wanted from a farming RPG. There are plenty of crops, trees, livestock, fishing, and mining to do. You can go to town and romance all the available bachelors and bachelorettes; meet new people, and help them with their day-to-day activities.
Stardew Valley offers hours upon hours of fun; you can even co-op with other friends!
Eastward
This game was developed by the Chinese-based indie studio Pixpil. Believe it or not the game was made by only 3 people! Eastward is one of the most soothing and refreshing experiences on Game Pass right now. It has a 16-bit esthetic that will evoke nostalgia right from the get go.
The story is quite good and the characters are charming. The gameplay mechanics are smooth, and the combat is satisfying, to say the least. I definitely recommend giving Eastward a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
This game is a sequel of the popular brawler series developed by Konami for arcades and Super Nintendo consoles. The game features all the beloved Ninja Turtles, and possesses amazing fighting mechanics.
It feels like a true upgrade; it does not make the mistake of having a different art style, like Shaq Fu, so players will feel familiar with the game. It is a true homage to previous titles made by Konami.
Grab a few of your friends and play in co-op mode.
